Theres a simple reason for this. The death of compromise.
Compromise generally leaves either side leaving the table feeling like they’ve accomplished some if not all of what they wanted to do. Without compromise neither Democrat nor Republican can feel like government is working for them.
The radicalization of both parties, and yes the leftist wing of the Democratic wing has grown in recent years, but especially the radicalization of the right that has grown to such force that it holds the GOP hostage has greatly damaged this country and our ability to C O M P R O M I S E. The hallmark of democracy one that we should embrace instead of balk at.
Another reason for this lack of compromise are the men and women who make up the current Congress. Only a quarter of our representatives are veterans. That means an overwhelming majority have no common shared experience, no instilled sense of dedication to the country as a whole rather than dedication to a narrow view of a constituency or more aptly their re-election.
