Marco.org: Subscriptions and the new In-App... →
marco:
Apple’s new subscription-billing requirement has generated a lot of bad press and debate. The new rule, from the App Store Review Guidelines (developer account required):
11.2 Apps utilizing a system other than the In App Purchase API (IAP) to purchase content, functionality, or services in…

Readability takes 30% off doing nothing other than instapaperizing articles albeit very nicely. No one gives a shit.
Apple takes 30% off and does MILLIONS in R&D, Software Development, Hardware Development, Creating the entire paradigm of the smartphone “app” and the marketplace with that, Marketing, etc…………….. everyone freaks out?

On Defending Apple And Common Sense
parislemon:
Rather than keep the back and forth going on TechCrunch, or leaving a comment that will be one of probably 500, I figured I’d do a quick response to Jason’s response to my Apple subscription posts here.
Jason brings up some good points, but his post is ultimately flawed for two very important reasons above all else: competition and change.
First of all, the post is written as if...
Shut Up and Ship RIM →
“He also said, “I think the PlayBook redefines what a tablet should do.”
Really, Jim? You had no idea what a tablet was until the iPad was released and now you’re an expert on redefining an entire market.
RIM should just be ignored until it proves it can do more than announce vaporware.”
Apple's Three Laws of Developers
yourhead:
A developer may not injure Apple or, through inaction, allow Apple to come to harm.
A developer must obey any orders given to it by Apple, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A developer must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Apple’s Digital Newsstand Just Disrupted The... →
Interesting way to look at this. Looking deeper this is more than “greed” (I don’t hold that opinion) but it’s about reinventing media consumption economics. I still think 30% is a bit much for continuous subscriptions I think 5% would be great. Because Apple is delivering customers that can easily subscribe with a tap and entering of a password and that does merit a slice...
If you think about it, Apple is all a subscription model. You never really buy...

Apple Dominates Supply Side →
This revelation that Apple is now Samsung’s biggest customer and perhaps even has reserved if not its entirety then almost all of its NAND flash memory allotment for the year got me thinking about the Xoom. Specifically the leaked or messed up leaked price point over the weekend for 1,200 for the Xoom. Everyone laughed, including me because theres no way in hell that the Xoom despite its...

Verrry interesting. Definitely going to keep this in mind in the future. Amazing how putting an envelope icon next to an RSS icon or next to a Facebook icon completely changes the context.
Sandboxed IE Browsers from Spoon →
andytlr:
Back in November, spoon.net removed their sandboxed IE browsers, leaving web developers everywhere rather unsatisfied.
As many know, the spoon.net sandboxed browsers were the most reliable browsers, aside from using IE versions in separate VMs.
It has now been three months and we’ve seen no movement from Spoon or MSFT. So, it’s time to share these.
Now I just need a PC to run them...

Client: “Our biggest donor just called, and she is very upset about the racist design you created for the ad for the upcoming Auction & Dinner Dance.”
